Santiago Crestmuel

My second character for Gemstone's group.

(I will comment on how old he is often in his description, but he isn't "that" old. He's about in his mid-life area. But in terms of fishing, he's fairly old to have spent all of his ten years doing the same thing.)

Accessories: Rope Collar [This rope is too thick to fish with, but he always wears it around his neck.] Shark Tooth Necklace [Santiago was out fishing when his large catch was attacked by a shark. He only managed to real in the head, seeing as that was all the shark had left him on his line, and pulled this mighty tooth out of the carcass. Now he never takes it off.] Black Fishing Bags [This 'backpack' is the most expensive thing Santiago owns. It's made from fine, black leather and is hooked closed with a dog tooth. This pack belonged to his father and was passed down to him once the old dog died. This pack is worn along Santiago's back when he carries in his catch or bait. The insides of the packs are lined with special material that is water resistant, so the fish carried inside don't ruin the back.]

[Easy Going]: Santiago is an easy going dog. He has quiet the reputation for being a marvelous fisherdog, but many doubt his old techniques from time to time. Even if he is a great fisher, he is very poor. Even for a fisher. Because of this, his fishing gear mostly contains thin ropes for line and hooks.

[Patient]: As all great fishers must be, Santiago is a patient dog. He'll spend hours on the docks each day, fishing. Most of the time, he'll come home empty pawed, but he doesn't mind. He knows he'll catch something tomorrow. However, once he has hooked something, he is unwilling to let it get away. The longest he has been on the line with a fish was three days.

[Loving]: Santiago is a loving dog. It's in his nature. Pups that live in the area look up to him as a great fisher when he brings in something big, and he teaches them how to be great too. But pups grow up, leaving Santiago behind while they went off to move into the city for better jobs. But even in his old age, Santiago has a big heart, full of love to go around.

[Wise]: Santiago has lived long enough to know plenty of secrets to perfect his fishing technique. Even using old techniques, such as rope line without a pole, he's able to pull in the big ones, and he's got the scars to prove it. He's happy to share his wisdom with all who seek it, although he won't come out up front and tell them. He's much too 'busy' to do that.

Brief History: Santiago was born into the Fisherman's Village, and has been fishing ever since. For a while as a pup, he wanted to travel to the city to be a Firedog, or maybe a teacher. But his dreams were quickly put down when his mother fell ill. His father would spend days out fishing, returning with whatever he caught. The older male wouldn't eat with Santiago and his mother, and whenever the pup took notice of this, the old dog would smile and rub the tuft of fur on Santiago's head.
"It's alright boy, I had a Sargent major on the way here." But Santiago could see through his father's lies as he started getting thinner, and the fish he started bringing back were getting smaller and smaller. So Santiago changed his priority, sneaking out at night with his father's supplies and trying to catch something for them all to eat. But he found his quick attacks and line throwing could use some work, and his father soon caught him in the act. But instead of being punished, his father taught him everything he knew about fishing. Santiago was almost a year old when his mother died, but the two lone males stayed strong. Her loss left a hole in Santiago's heart, and he filled it with fishing. Soon, the young pup became an excellent fisher, sometimes even bringing in a bigger catch than his father. The village took notice of this and Santiago found that whenever the two would head back home with their fish, other dogs around Santiago's age would greet them, curious to see what they had brought in today. Eventually even the older fishers came by to see Santiago's catch. Even through his rising popularity, Santiago stayed humble. But Santiago's popularity fell when his father died. The old dog had suffered a heart attack while out fishing with Santiago, and the pup watched as he died. This dampened Santiago, as he was orphaned and alone. The pain eased with age and soon he was being visited by pups again. His old desire to be a teacher sparked again as he showed the visiting pups a few tricks.

Roleplay Example: The setting sun cast a pink and golden reflection on the surface of the sea, rippling with the gentle flow of the tide. This scene reflected in the dark brown eyes of the dog as he watched. The gentle crash of the sea against the shore was joined by a succulent crunch as Santiago bit into an apple. Sweet juices slid down his bottom lip and onto his chin. A pink tongue slid over his canines to wipe his chin before he continued to chew the fruit in his mouth, watching the gentle caress of the ocean. The sea was a beautiful thing to Santiago, a beautiful thing that no female could even rank near to.

Other:
-All of the scars on Santiago are from fishing accidents. The ones on his pads, forelegs and back are from rope burn and getting caught in the lines. The ones on his back leg are from when a snapper escaped his grasp and flopped onto the dock. It flopped against his leg and the hook caught him. The thrashing fish caused the wound to scar up.
-Santiago is homosexual, though he doesn't act like it, being the more masculine counterpart.
